Nice outdoor deck with view of river. Great food. Only reason for 4 stars is the slow service. Ate outdoor on a beautiful day, went inside and surprisingly nice.

So I called tonight for a take out order. Waited on the phone for 20 minutes. Hung up and called back and was told it would be 25 minutes TO TAKE THE ORDER. Yes, what a joke. Food normally ok but it is pricy. Use to go often especially in the off season. No longer. Management needs to pay attention.

Yummy! Only been there twice but both meals were excellent. Had the sweet n sour chicken strips and then the coconut shrimp. Both totally worth it!

Bar food. Typical. Went with my 14 year-old - he liked his burger, but I'm not sure that he's ever met a burger he did NOT like. I had a bite - it was ok. Typical. Was excited to see a soft shell crab sandwich. Apparently there was a deep-fried soft shell crab beneath that soggy bun underneath the piles of drippy slaw. I scraped off the slaw, but the crab was already infused with it's flavor - could barely make out the crab. Small selection of craft beer on tap. Typical selection. Went to grab my water (plastic "glass" - nice touch) and noticed a slick of something dark brown coating the inside. My guess is that someone before me had iced tea. This happened at the END of our meal - if I had noticed this lack of basic sanitation earlier, I would have never eaten food from the place! Informed my waitress who seemed uninterested, but grudgingly offered me a replacement (yikes - no thank you).

Pepper joes has the best nacho I have ever had. The chicken tenders with sweet and sour sauce or buffalo style are great as well. I drive over 45 minutes to eat at pepper joes about 5-6 times a year. I don't think the price is higher than any other restaurant but I am not from the area. Prices seemed normal to me.

First time I ate here. Take out The onion rings were great! Love the dip n sauce, the broccoli soup was very good as well, the Philly sambo was great! There was only one issue, we had to go back for the au jus, which was worth the trip back! The person I spoke with on the phone was very pleasant!

It's only one of a few choices in the area, but some of the items are worth coming back for. The Good They have a really good quesadilla burger and I plan on getting it again next time I am in the area. The Bad The fajitas are ok, but the sides are pretty spare and you have to ask for additional Guac, salsa and sour cream. They offer an Asian salad, but no Asian dressing. Without the flavor from a sesame vinaigrette, or even an orange balsamic, it is not an Asian salad... it is just a salad. The Ugly The service is hit or miss. Either it's spot on, or it is "Where the hell is our waitress" Bottom Line Give it a try if you are in the area.

I love this place. The food was fabulous!!! We started off with a tower of homemade onion rings ...They had this in house sauce for the onion rings that was to die for ....Yumo. I got the bacon cheeseburger with fries. The cheeseburger had authentic charbroiled taste to it, hand patted, juicy and cooked to order. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised about how good the food was. The wait staff was ok; they didn't refill our drinks but were pleasant enough. The atmosphere in the restaurant was your typical Americana type bar/restaurant. It did have a nice open patio area that over looked the water/marina, which would be awesome during the summer months. The only downside to this restaurant is that there is NOT enough parking.

Inexperienced waitress, they brought me the wrong meal, put the soggy chicken from the wrong meal on my new sandwich and then I found hair in new sandwich! The manager never came out on her own until we sought her out which gave the impression of not caring. They did take the sandwich off the bill, but we had to ask about it. The food is over priced, average bar style food and you can sit on the patio which is nice, but overall the patio and river don't make up for the poor service and high prices...they even charge 1.50 extra for processed cheese on the kids cheese burgers.

Pepper Joe's is a great lunch and dinner place on the water. They have an outdoor deck right on the St. Clair River that is great for evening dinners in the summertime. Their menu is diverse, they have a huge variety of sandwiches and I have yet to try one that didn't please me. Their salads are huge and also very satisfying. They have plenty of entrees from perch to ribs to steak, but prices can run a bit steep so I have yet to try any of them. The waitstaff is friendly and orders usually arrive quick even when they're super busy. They give your table a small loaf of bread and butter which is certainly something to look forward to since it's always warm and fresh.

I've only been here once but the place was great. We may have had the best seat in the house. A booth from which we could see 3 monster screens as well as a view of the river. Very sweet for watching the Detroit Tigers. We each had a Margarita, which is not my usual drink but they were delicious. The very berry was like an adult slurpee, and the coconut margarita slapped you in the mouth with Tequila. We had fajitas and coconut shrimp and a side of chips, add a couple margaritas and its $40+ The tortilla chips were warm and I believe made on site. The salsa was kinda basic, but the chips really made the difference. The Fajitas were served with a small amount of pico, 4 shells, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and a side of rice. I opted for the steak, the steak strips were cooked perfectly for me ( a little pink in the middle) though I didn't specify so if you don't like your meat this way you may want to let them know ahead of time. The coconut shrimp were a nice size and the batter was yummy. The marmalade type sauce served with them wasn't the best coconut side sauce I've had, I think I like Red Lobsters sauce better :( But thats really pretty minor. We had steak fries and they were done right. Overall I'd definitely go back, I'm sorry I overlooked this gem for so long.

I took my boyfriend to eat at Pepper Joes for the first time last winter. I ordered the French dip and immediately sent it back because it tasted like a salt lick. We decided to give it a go today and we were disappointed yet again. Our spinach dip could have been prepared with more care - it was covered in the oil that separated after they obviously microwaved it; a quick stir could have fixed that. And even more disappointing was that it had a huge scoop of watery chopped tomato on top - something that was left out on the menu description. My French dip was again indelible for the same reasons as before. I don't believe for one second they are testing their au jus. My boyfriend ordered the ribs which had an odd smell and parts tasted a little funky. Our server was a doll and the fries were tasty. Just sadly disappointed in what we got for $50 and we easily agreed it would be our final trip to Pepper Joes.

I got a lovely buffalo chicken sandwich with something a little extra. A nice, big fat juicy hair that was so obvious you could see it from the space station. Stuff happens, I get it, but the waitress was barely apologetic, and I wasn't offered any compensation for sitting and watching my companion eat his entire meal. Given that it was a business meeting I was not in a position to negotiate, I would just have to settle on being disappointed in this place. On a side note, the non-hairy food was really good! The french fries were nice. Didn't dig the potato chips with the drizzle, better without drizzle.

Excellent food, ambiance and service. We stay away from the beers and cocktails as they are overpriced. The buffalo chicken strips are my favorite.

There are like four spots in this city to eat at. This one is one of the best. Trust me, I'm a foodie.

My niece, myself and my 2 daughters went to Pepper Joe's for dinner last night (Thursday). I have not been there for a few years and thought we would give it a try. It was very crowded outside so we opted to sit inside. When they seated us they brought kids menus but no crayons or placemats. Being a mom of a 1 and 3 year old, I had crayons in my purse and asked for a placemat for them to color. It didn't come until AFTER our food was served (a very long time!). It's not very kid friendly. I mean, who brings out something for the kids to color 2 minutes after their food gets there? Instantly they are done eating and want to color. We ordered a full order of Nachos, a buffalo chicken salad and an order of chicken strips for the kids. It took 50 minutes for us to get our food. It was ok, nothing special. The portions seem huge when they bring it to the table but then you realize that the salad is "huge" because of the overabundance of lettuce, not because of all the goodies that come atop it. The nachos were the same, lots of dry chips, hardly any cheese. However the kids meal was a good portion and we brought just about the whole thing home. The bill was $30.00 which seemed average. We were there for about 1 hour and 40 minutes which, in my opinion, is way too long for dinner with kids! My last experience was also not a good one. We had ordered carry out of fajitas, guacamole and chips and ribs. When we got home, there were no tortillas for the fajitas, a portion only large enough that you might have been able to fill up 2 tortillas....if you had them. No chips with the guacamole and the ribs were pathetic as well. This was almost 2 years ago. I suspect it will be that long again IF I ever give this place another try.

Pepper Joe's is a little joint on the Pine River in St. Clair with an even littler parking lot. This place recently changed their menu - they used to have a tex-mex vibe to their menu, but it now has more standard upper-end pub fare. The menu has various sandwiches and burgers - they'll run you between $7-$10 for the most part - along with big salads ($10ish) and entrees (up to $20). Burgers are a big part of their new menu, and they have a good selection of speciality burgers to choose from. Overall, their menu has a great selection at relatively fair prices - although it would be nice if they offered some lunch specials. Pepper Joe's has a huge deck which I am sure is super popular in summer nights with live music and things of that nature. - They have a small bar area in the front and a decent sized dining area in the back with lots of windows. When I was last there, we were one of two tables seated in the whole place - and I was a little troubled by the fact that I felt like I had to chase down the server to pay by bill. Service is nice, but not necesarily the most efficient. I can see how the atmosphere could make this the place to be during the warm weather months - but during the winter I would much rather head up the road to Murphy's.

A friend & I went to Pepper Joe's last Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. It was a sunny warm day, and we opted to sit outside on a deck which overlooks the river. Our server arrived promptly, and was extremely attentive. The menu is predominantly a sandwich fare, which was quite varied, and should satisfy any craving. She ordered a perch sandwich, while I selected the french dip. Both orders were to come with steak fries. For our appetizer, I ordered the cream of mushroom soup (with 2 spoons)...a new offering. The soup was outstanding. It was creamy, and almost seemed like it was made from a base of potato soup, and was abounding with mushrooms. Our meal arrived right on time. The steak fries were hot and crisp, with soft centers. Perfect. Unfortunately, that was the best part of our meals. Her perch sandwich was cold, as was my french dip. It seemed that perhaps the sandwiches waited for the fries to cook, and by that time, had gotten cool. I will say that the beef, cheese, and bread were tasty, but the broth (dip) was in a little bitty plastic cup. It was all but impossible to dip the sandwich in to the plastic cup. I ended up cutting the sandwich into pieces so they'd fit into the cup. So while the service was stellar, the presentation perfect, the view from the deck, wonderful...the sandwiches were off the mark. I have a pet peeve. I loathe when servers call women, or groups of men and women "guys". "What would you guys like to drink?" That drives me crazy. It is disingenuous, and in certain circumstances...insulting. I do not hesitate to point this out when it (all too often) happens. I complimented our server, for the fact that she did NOT use "guys" while serving us. She told us that the employee manual forbids use of the term "guys". That is awesome! I usually go to a restaurant with no expectations, but I'll admit that I expected better quality of food. Will I go back??? Absolutely! I'll give them another try, and hope that this experience was unique. I am a fan, for sure...just hoping for better...next time.

Nice atmosphere and I'm a big fan of the trivia. The food however was somewhat bland. Kind of a major strike. But everything else gets high ratings

We ate Sunday lunch at Pepper Joe's and really enjoyed the outdoor deck. We liked watching the boats go by on the Pine River. The waitstaff was friendly although a little slow at times. The burger menu is extensive. The meat, though, didn't have much flavor. I got the Bistro Burger and tasted the fixin's. We were whelmed (not underwhelmed or overwhelmed)

The atmosphere, employees, and music are all nice. The menu is pretty good and they are adding new items constantly. The deck is pleasant and they often have live music. It's great in the summer time when boats are going by.
